Handicapped && Trying To Conceive

Hello Bloggers!

To start this off I will give you a bit of background into who I am and what brings me to Pregnancy.org. First I am 21 years old and was born three months early with a disability called Cerebral Palsy. As I am sure you have heard of CP, give me a moment to explain how it effects me specifically. First I have had about a dozen surgeries raging from tendon and muscle releases to breaking of bones to straighten and correct. I have about fourteen visible scars from my stomach to the back of my knees. I used a wheelchair about 80% of the time until 2004 when I repeated 8th grade and decided I no longer wanted an aid or to use the chair at school. Now all I use are my fore-arm crutches 100% of the time. My insurance would no longer cover my physical or occupational therapies so I was on my own with keeping myself lose and mobile.

My parents got divorced when I was 8 and I think thats when I got resentful, my mom remarried a short time after and I never really got along with Gary (my step-father). My dad wasnt really around after he left and when my mom meet Gary she moved my older sister (Ally) and my younger brother (Tyler) and myself up to Connecticut where we lived with Gary and his daughter (Alison). My mom and I started arguing a lot as they years went on and I basically isolated myself. I dated the same guy all through high school but after graduation my mom decided I couldnt stay with her anymore so I moved to Maryland and reconnected with my Dad. Living with him and his long time girlfriend (Jan) was bearable. I attended Cecil College where I studied Allied Health for Medical Billing. I didnt finish college and in May 2009 I moved back to my hometown in Southern New Jersey where I lived with my moms parents in their basement apartment. While living there I did a lot of online dating 'cause it was always easier for me to meet people online.

Within a few weeks of living in Jersey I met John, we shared a few emails and phone conversations before finally meeting in person. We have been together ever since our first date. Six short months of intense dating we decided we would move in together so November we had been dating for almost 6 months and we were moving John out of his parents and me out of my grandparents. In the 5 month I had lived with them I had gotten on SSI and disability so that was my income and John works at his step-families hardware store. Its now the night before thanksgiving and we had been living together for three weeks and at the end of a nice evening of dinner and a movie he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.

We have been engaged for a year now, recently moved into a "townhome" like apartment and plan on having a small marriage ceremony in March. We had tried to conceive for the last two months with no avail and just tried again tonight so here comes the waiting game. We will continue to trying for the next few days and hope for a missed period! *fingers crossed* I am due on the 18th but am kinda hoping to test positive early :) Until next week.

Happy New Year
-B.
